Just when we thought everything was going slowly but surely and just 2 days away from having the concrete screed put down…the heavens opened! Don’t think I’ve seen rain like that outside of a storm in Florida! Water flooded in from the main road, along our accessway and unfortunately, under our house.

It wasn’t until the next day that we could really see what damage had occurred

What a mess! It was heart-breaking to see all that work ruined in just a matter of minutes. It certainly made us appreciate what all those poor people have been going through from the floods around the country earlier in the year.
Anyway, these things happen to test us, and no-one was hurt, which is always the most important thing, so we’ll just roll up our sleeves and start sorting things out. Will have to sort things out through insurance though so that’s going to set us back a few weeks.
In the meantime, Highways will be paying us a visit to see how this can be remedied so that it doesn’t happen again as the water should most definitely not be coming from the highway and onto private land. Some extra drainage may likely be required on the access road too just for good measure. The only saving grace is that we were at the stage we were and had not finished…
Who would believe that the weather would be so beautiful just 2 days later??? At least it meant the cladding could get finished… So not all bad.
